26A – Celebrating Failure

1) Perhaps the most recurring failure I had this semester was figuring out a way to study for one of my other classes. It is a class that deals with the time value of money and other long math problems. This class made me struggle a lot because of the combination of computation and conceptual questions. It was a lot of information to memorize and I failed the first few times with my method of studying. I tried watching the lectures repeatedly and reviewed my notes. It took me some time before I learned how to manage my time more wisely and create and effective study plan that has helped me succeed in the course.
2) I learned how to section and divide each lesson and the amount of time given to each part that would efficiently allow me to absorb and retain all of the information on each exam. I learned which methods I learned best from and others that do not work well with me personally.
3) Failure is an essential part of success. Without having failed and going through various trial and error phases in figuring out a study plan, I would not have learned what works best for me. I have to go through various methods, even those that may work on other and not myself, in order to be able to find something that helps me learn and retain the material.

  1. Fabiana, it was really interesting to hear about how failure has influenced you and how you overcame it this semester. Difficult classes and trying to figure out study habits are something that I go through as well, so I understand the struggle and frustration that comes along with it. I really liked how you made an effort to improve your study habits in order to figure out what will work best for you. I also like how you did not let your prior failures effect your efforts and desire to get what you want and how you treated the whole situation as a big learning experience. Keep up the good work!

  2. Fabiana,
I too had the same type of problem in one of my classes as well. It was very frustrating at the beginning of the semester trying to figure out how to get it to all work out. I will say that it did bring me to push myself harder and the failure brought out the best in me. I really liked your post and found it very interesting.

  3. Hey Fabiana,
I can relate to your post very much. I as well have had trouble with figuring out how to study for a certain class and it definitely made me very stressed because I would try really hard but the outcome I wanted wasn't there. But all I got to say is keep going and you got this. Overall, I really enjoyed reading your post. Good job.

  4. Hey Fabiana,
I really enjoyed reading your post due to the simple fact that is was so relatable. I understand completely where you are coming from and have often struggled in attempts to find ways to study that worked and provided me with success. This definitely takes a toll on you, the stress and the feeling of defeat. It really does suck and affect you when you have tried so hard and the outcome doesn't reflect your efforts put in. In conclusion to all that said it is important to never give up and always continue trying and you will succeed. I really think overall you did an amazing job.
