12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Segment: UF college students that attended football games regularly last season.

Interview #1:

  • The first person I interviewed said that the need awareness was relevant when they personally experienced it. There were times that the rain is not too bad and it does not matter to them but other times they are forced to have to leave and find shelter. Umbrellas are annoying to them since they are avid gator fans and they have to stand to see better which makes the game even more uncomfortable. They usually just either wait it out to see if it gets better or leave immediately if the weather is too poor.
Interview #2:

  • This person usually only goes to games because their friends drag them to it. So when they are confronted with bad weather it is extremely unpleasant for them and they want to immediately leave. They do not carry umbrellas because they usually tailgate and do not want to hold it so they stressed the importance of an easily portable solution. They said they probably will continue the day in bars and being soaked is not an option because they would have to worry about getting ready all over again. This is someone who is being dragged to games constantly by their group of friends and this can be an easy solution for them to relax in comfort.
Interview #3:

  • This person is someone who actually works on the field with the team. They said that they are always extremely aware of the weather since they have to constantly be running around grabbing things for the team and coach. The weather becomes even more extreme when they are active like that. They said when weather gets bad and starts raining, they do not have an option but to stay. Either get soaked or hold and umbrella or look for a poncho. This is something they could benefit from, especially if it is portable and free of hand use.
In summary, everyone is aware of this need. Especially in Florida where weather tends to range from blistering hot weather to downpours every day. It is something that determines how a person will go about their day and this could very well be an easy solution for those that paid money for tickets and do not want it to go to waste. It could even drive up ticket sales if it is market well enough and people will still buy tickets on days where rain or bad weather is predicted because they know there is a solution.

  1. Fabiana, I was surprised to see that you chose UF students as your segment because I feel like they are usually standing up at games and that adults would be more inclined to use the product for themselves when they go to professional games or even their children’s’ games. I thought your interviews did a great job in getting you information you needed on awareness, but I think you could have gotten more regarding where they get information. Overall, I do think that there is a need for your product and that all people can use it, but I think older adults who like sports and have children that play sports will give you the best information to help with your product. Keep up the good work!

  2. Fabiana,
I think your idea is genius and it would be something that I would not be afraid to spend money on. I also liked your point about how you think that this product could help boost overall ticket sales because fans wouldn't be afraid of it raining during the game if they just had your product then it would be a nonevent.

  3. Hey Fabiana,
Again I think your idea is amazing that could be and should be fully implemented. There is only a beneficial output from this. I do think there is a need and love that you choose the students as your source but I do feel like you should ask more families on the opinion of the idea as well. Overall great job I think this idea as a big picture is amazing.
