9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

I have decided to take a different route of opportunity to something we can all relate to in Gainesville. When attending football games in the fall, the weather can tend to be quite bipolar in Florida. It can be sunny all day and pouring in the next second. So I am attempting to come up with some sort of invisible shield to offer protection from the rain while still enjoying the game. There can also be a protective layer that reflects off UV rays, like some glasses do to protect from harmful rays of sun. I know an umbrella could be an easy fix to this issue but it is also going to obstruct the view of those seated in proximity and it becomes annoying to hold after a while. This will resemble the beach chairs that have the roof attached to the chair but instead the roof will be flat and made of a sort of invisible plastic to minimize disruption to those seated behind the user. It will be made to easily slide back into a manageable and portable device with straps like a flatter backpack so one does not have to worry about carrying it around when they have big families or concession snacks.
To begin with the outside boundaries:

  • Who: There are some people that think this is not a necessary buy considering it will not always rain and they do not want to spend money on such an item. There are also people that do not care about obstructing other people's views or holding something for long periods of time and an umbrella will suffice for them.
  • What: The need identified is primarily to stay safe and dry without causing an annoyance. I do not think it differs from other needs. This is just something that protects those attending games from natural weather forces. It is not something for vanity.
  • Why: There may be an outlying cause for the outsiders to not want to buy this. They may think it is just another gadget made to collect profits from desperate game goers.

  1. Fabiana, I really like your idea because the problem you brought up and solved is something that I have been dealing with my entire life as a sports fan. I also like how in your solution, you showed concern for other around the people with the product and tailored it to keep the game enjoyable for everyone in the area. I also liked that when explain your who, what, and why you talked about the positive and negative views that consumers may have. Overall, I think the product can be complicated, but it is very useful, so I am excited to see where you take it!

  2. Hi Fabiana!

Great job on this post. This is an idea I have never heard before, but I think it can be a very effective solution for attendees to be comfortable no matter the weather. I am not entirely sure if we have to include specific details about the five people we interviewed, but that is an improvement to this post that I would personally make. Overall, I think you did a great job selling the solution (I definitely love it!) and completing the chart.
