21A – Reading Reflection No. 2
I decided to read Mindset:The New Psychology of Success. It goes into major detail about how some people need to change their perceptions on their ability to succeed. It encourages the readers to aim for excellence by maximizing their potential and to become the best versions of themselves. Dweck challenges the readers to reconsider everything they have been taught in order to allow oneself to grow, adapt, and change.
The book related to much of what we are being taught in ENT3003 because it is making us question ourselves purely to allow ourselves to grow in the business world. It encourages us to view failure as something that is allowing us to learn and grow rather than a judgment to our own personal capabilities.
I think an exercise for this class inspired by the book is to dissect our failures. We need to make sure we are learning from them. By completely understanding our mistakes and accepting them because if not we are subconsciously scared of risking and trying new things.
The "aha" moment for me was that how we view ourselves is what determines our success. The psychology behind this is the main difference as to why some people succeed and others do not.

Fabiana, I really like the book you chose because I believe having the right mindset is a major key for success. I believe strongly in being the best version of myself like the book states each and every day and I believe that stems from confidence and individuality. I really like how you brought up that the class and the book both ask us to look ourselves in the mirror and see what we need to do to grow. I really like the idea of the dissecting failures exercise because I believe our true character comes out in those times. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHey Fabiana,
ReplyDeleteI loved your selection of book, for a variety of reasons but most importantly because it has to involve mindset. I am a psychology major so I find it so fascinating to learn about why and how we think. I do agree with that mindset has a lot to do with success. If you think failure, failure comes out and vice versa.
Hey Fabiana,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about the book you chose because I also believe it is important to make sure that you have the right mindset in order to succeed. You also mentioned a good point on how this book can relate to the class by allowing ourselves to grow in the business world by committing failures and learning and growing from them. We grow the most when we fail. But it's how we look at how to make things better afterward is what really matters.
