25A – What’s Next?

Existing Market

  • In this interview, the person plays football for the Gators. They said that this is an interesting concept and would be taken in with open arms by avid sports fans. They said they could see a potential partnership as well. They think I should not limit myself to only target fans in the stadium. They said I should expand my market.
  • This interview was conducted on a fellow Gator that buys seasonal tickets each year. They said that this is a product they would be willing to try. They usually opt in for something cheap when it comes to unexpected weather though. They said that for future ventures, I should focus on adding new products to the same scenario and target audience. Such as visors, coolers, yetis, etc. This is something they would be more willing to test out.
  • This interview was conducted on my father. He is a middle aged man that occasionally attends sports games in stadiums or bleachers. He said he is always open to new ideas and his curiosity is easily awakened by new product like that and would want to test it out. He also mentioned expanding the target audience and market to not only sports fans but market it to the general population.
From the interviews I conducted, I see my path for the future more clearly. The general public seems to want a wider scope and variety of product that can be used for outdoor events. I also see myself marketing to a bigger audience. This product can be used for a variety of purposes not only to protect against weather in a stadium.

New Market
Like previously mentioned, my product can meet the needs of other markets. People need protection from the rain in general. I am choosing a more active environment, targeting those that like to hike, camp, go to the beach, etc. The price would not change since it is reasonably priced to begin with.
This venture can create value for those in the market because it is an easy way to protect people from the weather and that is something that active people usually have to face.

  • The first person I talked to was a friend that has an active lifestyle and does a lot of outdoor activities. She said she was not sure how this product could thrive in her target market. She said that with some adaptation and changes, maybe it could help those that enjoy hiking and run into unfortunate weather. She said most of the time these activities would only be preformed when looking at the weather in advance and if there was bad weather then the activity would not happen at all. She mentioned having a wider scope of products and changing the product to better fit this market.
  • The second person I interviewed works near the beach renting out equipment. He said this was a cool product they could see themselves using even to protect from the sun if certain adaptations were made. He mentioned how they have to work either way whether it rains or not so this could be something useful for workers like him.
I learned that my product best fits those in my original market. The product was meant to be made for those that are in large audiences and do not want to hold or obstruct anyones view with an umbrella so this works perfectly for this group. If i wanted to cater it to a larger audience I would have to make changes to the product.

  1. Fabiana, I like how you described what adjustments you can make for your product in order to make it better for your customers and bring you a higher rate of satisfaction. I also like how you plan to move your product to a larger audience that incorporates use at more events because I believe that creates another source of income for the product. For your new market, I like how you moved from just sports fans to people who enjoy outdoor activities. I believe that extending the range of your market into these areas can be crucial not only for profits, but now you have the opportunity to create partnerships with other stores like Columbia and North Face. I believe that making changes to your product or just coming up with new variations can be a positive thing that only benefits yourself and the company more. Keep up the good work!

  2. Hey there! It was interesting to see your thought process here and how naturally it seems like your product could be applied to a wider market. It's important to understand the different needs of different markets, and having variations of your product that are a bit specialized for different situations an environments isn't a bad thing. I don't you should necessarily dismiss other markets just because they would require small changes to the product unless you are set on just focusing on a single version of your product. Either way, it seems like you gained some useful insight during this assignment.
