27A Reading Reflection #3
1) Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
3) I was confused with the part when he left his job at Apple to work with a company called NeXT, which ended up being acquired by Apple. I was confused because this put him back to the original job that he wanted to leave.
4) I would want to ask him how he stayed one step ahead of his competitors all the time and if he ever thought about going back to college.
5) Steve Jobs definitely valued hard work. He did dabble in stealing other people's ideas (other people's hard work). But I think Steve Jobs would define hard work as stamina, discipline, acceptance of failure, adaptability, and clear goals.
- What surprised me the most about Steve Jobs was that his quirky and challenging personality clashed with other so much that is became a huge issue with him and his business and the people he worked with.
- What I admire the most about him is his determination. For example, when he got his job with Atari he walked into the office and said he refused to leave without a job. This same mindset and perspective helped him become so successful.
- What I admire least about him was how ruthless he was when he stole other people's ideas. He would berate them for being stupid and days later he would ruthlessly take the idea as his own.
- He definitely did encounter adversity, none of his co-workers liked him because he was difficult to work with. He had to leave his original job at Apple because of how difficult he was in cooperating with others.

Fabiana, I really enjoyed hearing about your experience reading about Steve Jobs. It was really interesting to hear that his personality created a rift between himself and those he worked with. I also liked how you described his determination, persistence, and ruthlessness. It shows that he got what he set his mind on and did not take no for an answer, which is really cool to hear about. Hearing about how he knew the industry and that he understood what he needed to do to succeed in the industry shows why he was so successful. Steve Jobs is an entrepreneur everyone knows, so it was nice to hear some detailed facts on his personality and work ethic that were new to me. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteFabiana,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post about the book Steve Jobs. I didn't know that he had such a challenging personality that didn't mesh real smoothly with who he worked with. This was something that really interested me within your post. I too think that being ruthless and not caring about hurting others feelings in the business world is completely acceptable. Great post.
Hey Fabiana,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post about the book you selected to read. I would have to agree with you and found it weird that he ended up working in his original job when his intentions were to leave that job and not go back. By your post, it seems that he was someone who was very hard to work with and although I know he was always ahead of the game, being ruthless with your peers can and will affect the business.
Hey Fabiana,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your take on this book, I have also read this book and enjoyed it. it was so interesting to me to know how challenging things where and I had the shock to learn that his personality was not the greatest and often his peers struggled with dealing with it. I did agree as well when you touched on that aspect about him being rude was needed to get to where he as well as his team are today. Sometimes tough love is the love we needed most. I did enjoy reading your post and think you did an amazing job.
